Formerly known as Podere San Giuseppe, Stella di Campalto was founded in 1992 upon the resuscitation of the property’s near-century-old winery, which was done by Stella and her family themselves. Stella has been at the helm of viticulture and vinification since day one, and has been farming organically and biodynamically since 1996 and 2002, respectively. All of the estate’s vines are cultivated at soaring altitudes, and thus benefit from ample sunlight and excellent exposure.
In the cellar, all work (including bottling) is done by hand and gravity. Aging takes place in a combination of oak barriques and large-format botti, and all wines are released with extra bottle age, specifically at the precise moment when Stella deems them to be ready. It’s no surprise these wines have become benchmark bottles—as well as bona fide favorites—of collectors, new consumers, and industry folk alike.
